How to Refresh Your Website Without Losing Content

As a Cohesive Digital client, giving your website a facelift is incredibly straightforward. Our Reset Site feature allows you to update your template while choosing exactly how much of your existing content you want to keep.

How to Reset Your Site (Step-by-Step)

You have two different ways to reset your site, depending on where you are currently working:

Method 1: From the Site Editor (For All Reset Types)

1. In the left-hand side panel, click More, then click Settings.
2. Click Reset site.
3. Select your preferred type of reset ("Keep site data and settings" or "Start from scratch").

Method 2: From the Dashboard (For "Start from Scratch" Only)

1. Select the site you want to reset from your list of sites on your dashboard.
2. Hover over the three dots (⋮) icon and click Reset Site.
3. A confirmation popup will appear.

Which Reset Option is Right for You?

When resetting your site from the editor, you will be asked to choose between two reset types. Here is a guide to help you choose the best option for your goals:

1. Keep Data and Settings (Recommended)

Choose this option if: You want to upgrade your site design but keep your existing content. This saves your Content Library (business info, text, and images), uploaded site images, store, and blog content. With connected templates, you can even auto-populate the widgets of your new site!

- Editor Match Required: You can only reset to a template using the same editor type (e.g., if your current site uses a Classic Editor template, you cannot reset it to an Editor 2.0 template).
- Store Data Kept: If you have a store, you can only select from templates with the same store type. Your existing store will remain completely intact, including orders, customer information, and store settings.

2. Start From Scratch (Previously "Complete Reset")

Choose this option if: You are doing a total rebrand or truly want a blank slate to build a completely new site from the ground up.

- What is kept: Your site stats and the Email field in your Business Info (ensuring your contact forms continue to work).
- Store Data Overwritten: If your site has a store, you can only select from templates with the same store type. However, your current store's data and configurations will be overwritten by the new template, resulting in complete data loss for your current store.

ℹ️ Important Notes for Both Reset Types

- Your site subscription is always saved
- Neither reset type saves existing pages, site theme options, or data placed directly on the site (such as via widgets or in Developer mode).

⚠️ Warning for Third-Party E-Commerce Stores

If you have a third-party store with Store Pages and you select a template without a store, the store will break and your site data will not be retained.
